How to Play

DRAW A CARD & SCAN THE CODE

Choose a card at random. Then scan the code using your smartphone camera and tap the link that pops up. Card's not your vibe? Skip it and draw again or try out a write-in prompt if you'd like to head in another direction.

RECORD YOUR ANSWER

Hit record, then spill the tea, share the story, laugh, cry—most importantly, speak from the heart. No need to get it perfect. A little imperfection makes it more you. Just remember there's a five-minute upload limit.

UPLOAD & SIGN YOUR MESSAGE

After recording, select upload, then write the player's name on the card and tuck it in your album. Instant keepsake! Then pass the deck and repeat until every player has had a turn to respond to a card.

DRAW A GROUP-PLAY CARD AND SCAN THE CODE

Choose a group-play card at random. Unless the prompt is vetoed by any one player, scan the code with your smartphone camera and tap the link that pops up.

BRAINSTORM YOUR RESPONSE

Allow the group one minute, during which time each player privately reflects on a response. This is your time to gather thoughts, dig up a memory, or land on the story you want to tell.

RECORD AND UPLOAD

Everyone shares and records together in one video. If you run out of time, create a sequel by grabbing a blank card and writing in the group-play prompt.

Make it your own!

House rules are encouraged. The goal of YesterSay is to create fun and intentional interpersonal moments, capturing memories in video format. Formal gameplay is a great facilitator to that end, but some YesterSay players like to treat the deck as a video journal by logging memories in a more ongoing, habitual way. Playing YesterSay your own way? Our team would love to hear about it!

Frequently Asked Questions

How do the codes work?

Each card has a unique Spokenote code. Simply scan the code with your smartphone’s camera (do not use QR code scanning apps), tap the link that appears, and record your video. Once uploaded, the code is permanently linked to that video. Make sure you’re using your phone’s camera app (not a third-party QR scanner). If nothing pops up, try increasing the lighting or cleaning your camera lens.

Do these codes expire?

Nope! Once a video is uploaded, it stays linked to that code for keeps.

What if I accidentally record the wrong thing? Can I re-do it?

If you need to do a new take, you can re-record provided that you haven’t officially uploaded your video to the code. If you have hit the upload button… sorry,no take-backs! Once a video is uploaded, it’s permanent. But no worries— if you want to redo a card after you’ve uploaded a video, just grab a blank card, write in a prompt, and try again!

Can I download my videos?

Yes! You can record the video with your smartphone first, just like you would record any other video. Then scan the code and upload the video from your photo library. This way, every video you make will be on your phone.

Where are the videos stored?

Videos are hosted on a secure AWS cloud server with no subscriptions or hidden fees. Scan your code anytime to access your memories instantly.

Can I share my video with someone else?

Absolutely! Just scan the card, copy the video link, and send it to friends, family, or future historians.

Do I need wi-fi or cell service to scan a code?

Yes, ideally, you’ll want an internet connection to access and upload videos. No Wi-Fi in your time-traveling bunker? Record it on your phone and upload to your cards later when you have a connection.

What if I run out of cards?

No worries! Expansion packs with new prompts and extra blank cards are available on our website. Hungry for more before a new deck drops? Just reach out to our team. We might just be able to help you enjoy a pre-release edition.

Is there a limit to how many people can play?

Nope! Play with as many people as you like. Just be mindful of video time—each response is capped at 5 minutes.
